Carbon Literacy for Wedding Professionals
What is Carbon Literacy?
As defined by the Carbon Literacy Project, Carbon Literacy is a term used to describe an awareness of climate change, and the climate impacts of mankind’s everyday actions. The term has had occasional use in scientific literature and casual usage but now is almost exclusively associated with The Carbon Literacy Project.
Carbon Literacy is the knowledge and capacity required to create a positive shift in how mankind lives, works and behaves in response to climate change. Learners who have completed a day’s worth of Carbon Literacy learning can be certified as ‘Carbon Literate’.
The Carbon Literacy course by the Sustainable Wedding Alliance was a real eye opener. Sustainability is such a broad subject and doing this course made me realise that I hadn’t even scratched the sustainability surface! I’d recommend anyone and everyone should do this course but especially if you’re a small business on your sustainability journey! Mercedes from 4YaParty Weddings and Events
We’ve developed the Carbon Literacy Training for Wedding Professionals, a course that’s specifically designed for those working in the wedding industry. The course will give you the knowledge and the tools you need to be confident when talking about climate change. The course will take you from the basics of climate science, and what is happening with the climate emergency; through to how this will impact everyone, enabling you to pledge relevant carbon reducing actions in your life, work & industry.
We host both in person and online sessions, designed for those working in the wedding industry. It’s the perfect course for businesses and individuals that want to make a positive change and take action on climate change through their role.
On successful completion of your Carbon Literacy training, after submitting your actions, you can become certified as ‘Carbon Literate’, joining more than 110,000 others, and including business leaders across multiple sectors. By taking part in this course, you will join individuals and team members across other businesses including the NHS, Patagonia and the BBC to become ‘Carbon Literate’, helping to embed a widespread low-carbon culture.
After completing the course, you’ll be required to complete a Participant Evidence form which will then be sent to the Carbon Literacy Project for approval. Once the form has been approved you will receive your certificate.
The course is £80 per person plus a £10 certificate fee. For members, there is no cost to the training, we just ask you to cover the certification fee. On the occasion that we are at a venue that provides lunch there may be additional costs.
We also offer group training, so if you have a team, or want to bring a group together to do the training, please let us know and we can arrange a date for you.
It’s accredited too!

We are delighted to be accredited as a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation by the UN-recognised The Carbon Literacy Project. This prestigious accreditation recognises our commitment to upskill our people to play a proactive role in reducing our organisational carbon emissions, and work towards a zero carbon future.
Carbon Literacy is defined as, “An awareness of the carbon dioxide costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis,” and revolves around a day’s worth of learning and action on climate change.
Being accredited as a Bronze Carbon Literate Organisation is an important achievement for us because it:
– Encourages and supports the wedding industry professionals to collaborate to identify and implement carbon reduction
– Demonstrates our commitment to developing a low-carbon wedding industry
– Enables us to drive faster action on climate change
– Sets a positive example of sustainability leadership in the industry
