Happiest with a bucket of blooms, a pair of scissors and a wonderfully creative brief, the feeling Rebecca gets when she brings something to life that only previously existed in someone’s imagination is beyond words.
Her style is warm and personal, natural and effortless – Rebecca always wants designs to look like they have just fallen together. She loves to use lots of different textures and beautiful scents too – Rebecca thinks there is something so romantic about the idea that a couple could be instantly taken back to their wedding day by the sight or scent of a flower that they simply brush past in a garden.
Lilac and Lace Floral Design (LLFD) is changing to ensure sustainability is at its very heart. Rebecca has a long-standing background in meteorology and climatology, and wants to use that knowledge to create a greener, more sustainable business. Rebecca believes it is her responsibility to create a business that balances people, profit and planet, and she wants to work with other like-minded people to make strides in improving the wedding industries poor track record with sustainability.
Rebecca has been increasing the locally grown component of her 2022 weddings, with 2 of her 20 weddings completed using solely locally/British grown flowers. This is the direction in which LLFD is heading, with the long-term aim of all weddings to be totally UK/locally sourced by the end of 2024. Rebecca aims to achieve this through her trusted network of local growers and by growing her own on her plot.
LLFD is also improving its use of sustainable techniques and practices in the drive to reduce the use of single-use plastics and other non-recyclable materials. Rebecca has switched her top table arrangement designs from plastic trays with moss to reusable ceramics. She has also switched her Christmas wreaths to compostable willow frames, uses naturally derived twine and ribbon, composts all her green waste, dries flowers for use in the winter, turns unwanted petals into confetti for her couples and has a prop hire system in place to prevent the need for additional purchases by her couples that may end up in landfill.
Rebecca is also actively promoting biodiversity both at home and on a more global scale. Rebecca works with Ecologi to restore wildlife habitats in areas damaged by human consumption. LLFD is also working with Little Warden to increase their biodiversity at their farm in Brasted, Kent. Rebecca has an advisory role in planting native trees and providing flowering pollinators for bees that are planned for the future. Little Warden is a not for profit organisation that works incredibly hard to give back to local wildlife charities and Rebecca will contribute to this work through her growing plot, and flower and foliage use.
